Before I got pregnant, my husband and I decided to give Beachbody Trainer, Shaun T’s, INSANITY workout a try. This program was crazy! Packed with plyometrics, interval training, max conditioning cardio, and core and muscle strengthening, we worked out six days a week for 60 days. I got in the best shape of my life. I dropped 10 pounds and lost inches everywhere. I said hello to my new abs and goodbye to my back fat.
There are a few reasons why I chose INSANITY before getting pregnant. Dave’s sisters were getting married and I was in both weddings. Also, we were finally taking our delayed honeymoon in the very bikini friendly Dominican Republic. I wanted to look my best. Most importantly, I wanted to have a picture to post on my fridge just in case I had trouble losing the baby weight–which leads me to why I am writing this article.
After four months, the baby weight was gone. In fact, I am now six pounds lighter than I was when I first got pregnant. Don’t let this fool you. I am nowhere near the shape I was in after doing INSANITY. I have lost muscle and I still have a little jiggle in some of those scary places (baby or not, you know what I mean!). This proves that you can’t always rely on a scale alone to tell you whether you have reached your fitness goals.
While I am shocked that the weight came off so quickly, I am still trying to get back into a routine of eating better (and more often!), working out, and achieving new goals. I have taken measurements of my arms, legs, hips, waist and chest to compare with previous and future measurements. I have used a caliber to get a more accurate percentage of body fat.
I don’t pay too much attention to the scale these days. It calls my name every morning but it gives me false hope. When the jiggles are gone and my abs are back, then I will know that I am the healthiest I can be…no matter what that scale says.
